iPhone App Icon Design

I am currently working on some iPhone App design work for a client of mine. The App is aimed at business, a kind of resource with down-loadable pdf files etc.

There are many routes this could have taken, such as warmer tones to suggest libraries and books. But in the end the client decided on the bright blue colour shown above; quite a good choice in my opinion. This is a friendly, approachable colour that also gives the impression of trust and professionalism, something very important when dealing with business.

Icon design is much more complicated than it looks; you have to send the message home in the simplest way possible. Not an easy thing to do! But I'm enjoying the challenge.

Also, these have been made originally as vector icons to ensure a quality finish. I think the way the web is going, I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years time we are all designing websites in vector programs. There would be many pluses for doing this, such as being able to print your designs out at a nice size. But also the quality would be better I believe.

Good times!

Hey man! I've never done Icon design before, but those buttons look great to me! In addition of what you said about vector programs, I'm sure that Photoshop is going 3D within the next 5 years.

Wow, those are super sleek!

I love working in vector. The more time I spent in Illustrator, the more I love it.

Very nice designs. I think they show the idea of proffesionality you're looking for.

I agree with that comment about vectors. Most of my colleages designers and illustrators work with vectors all the time. And I do as well sometimes, because of the clean and refined results and the possibility of printing it at best quality no matter the size. Still, I have to admit I feel more confortable working with photoshop and old-school painting programs.
